Jan

Writer and Illustrator

A retired  Primary teacher of over twenty years Jan moved onto a narrow boat with her husband Mike and started writing children’s books. Her series of six books about ‘Chico Chugg’, a loveable Jack Russell who lives on a narrowboat, are based on her own dog. They are for 7 to 11 year olds. Jan’s first book ‘The Misadventures of Chico Chugg’ was a finalist in the ‘People’s Book Prize’  2012.

Chico is now widely known and loved by over 20 000 children after Jan toured Primary schools across the country promoting writing through literacy assemblies. Chico also has his own website, facebook and twitter  pages where children can follow his daily adventures and antics. www.chicochugg.com

A chance meeting with Anita at a craft fair, began the start of a new venture. Jan had dreamt that one day Chico Chugg could make it to children’s TV and Anita recognised the exciting possibilities of turning Mike’s songs and Jan’s writing into short live action films for 3 to 7 year olds. Jan is now busy writing a series of Chico Chugg books to go with the filmed series for younger children. She is also planning and creating new ideas for future children’s, as well as adult, TV.
